Catherine Lorimer
Born in 1985 in Ishigaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture, to a potter
Since I was a teenager, I traveled to the United States and Southeast Asia when I was 27 years old.
Study abroad in New Zealand, the hometown of his father Paul Lormier.
Looking at Japan from the outside, I once again feel the goodness of nature, the importance of traditional performing arts, and cultural differences.
2012 Returned to Japan and studied under Ishigaki Island's mother Nami Lorimar
2015 Ceramics made under the master of the potter's parents, Barry Brickell
2018 Studied under Paul Lormier, father of Okinawa main island
2021 Opened NANTOUYAKI in Okinawa City, Okinawa.
手から沖縄を感じて欲しい
県内で採取した原土(げんど)を水と混ぜて余分なものを取り除く作業、水簸(すいひ)をし粘土を作りますが、沖縄の粘土は耐火性が低く粘りなどを出すために
約3箇所の土をブレンドし粘度や強度を上げています。
私の食器を通して沖縄を感じて欲しい、沖縄の人として誇りを持ってこの島の粘土を使っています。
